Time Out Group made a strategic investment in mobile payment app Flypay in 2015. Flypay has now been named in the inaugural Bloomberg Business Innovators list 2016.
The list recognises 50 breakthrough businesses that are growing and innovating at pace, disrupting the way people live, work and think in the UK.
Its judging panel was comprised of leaders of finance, technology, social enterprise and fast growth sectors.
Flypay CEO Tom Weaver described being recognised in the list as a great honour.
“2015 was a phenomenal year for Flypay, which has seen us secure investment from Time Out and work with Apple and Visa Collab Europe on a pipeline of innovative propositions for operators in the hospitality industry.”
In the year ahead Flypay was looking to launch a new CRM solution, codenamed Reach, which would provide operators with real time feedback on customer sentiment. “Fundamentally, we are trying to help the restaurant industry understand and engage with their customers better,” he said.
“At the moment most people that walk into a restaurant are anonymous. We believe experiences flow better when we connect the dots.”
Giles Andrews, Co-founder & Executive Chairman of Zopa and Bloomberg Business Innovators Judge said the UK was a great place for disruptive businesses.
“Consumer adoption of technology is high and it is a big market for most sectors. We are seeing industries flourish with technological change.
“It is exciting to see that there are so many great opportunities for innovative companies to grow right now.”
