Is the new film institute for Dutch people only? When you read this on their website (http://www.eyefilm.nl/tickets) it appears that they don't want any foreign guests.
"Aan onze kassa kan voortaan alleen met pin en creditcard betaald worden (dus niet met cash!). Online kan betaald worden met iDeal."
Translation: You can only buy tickets with PIN and credit card (that means no cash!). Online you can [only] pay with iDeal.
PIN and iDeal can only be used by Dutch people because you need to have Dutch bank account to pay with PIN or iDeal. Credit card payments are often problematic, for instance if your card has only a magnetic stripe and no chip.
This means that anyone visiting who does not have a Dutch bank account will not be able to buy tickets at the EYE unless they have a credit card and that credit card is accepted by EYE. Otherwise they will be turned away.
That's a very uninternational way of doing business for a country which used to pride itself on being the leader in international commerce. Fortunately there are still other things in Amsterdam to do where your cash is still accepted.
