The Comedy Café has been doing a decent job of bringing the art of stand-up to a wider audience. From Thursday to Saturday, there's a stand-up show in a mind-boggling blend of Dutch and English. Monday's shows vary between open-mic and theme nights (an evening of local comedy, for example). On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, comics try out new material at the venue's open-mic nights, while Sundays are reserved for the English-language improv show In Your Face!!. For those who want some grub before their laughs, there's also a restaurant for lunch and dinner; you can order a la carte or take up a dinner-and-show arrangement, thus ensuring fuller, more satisfying belly laughs.

Stand up comedy evening at Comedy Café Amsterdam: Not funny. Not professional. Not recommended.
Six stand-up comedists, one of which was staff, and the other five guest performers.
The staff stand-up comedist was reasonably funny, but made a horrible comment towards a client who left early, calling her a slut. That is simply not funny.
Another stand-up comedist got into an ugly fight with another client who openly said to him that he was not funny; he ended his show by wishing her a stroke. Not funny.
One other stand-up comedist looked so drunk that we could not stop wondering whether his behavior is due to a high level of alcohol in his blood or whether it is part of the show and should be perceived as funny.
Note: the spoken language is Dutch, not English!

Just a correction, on Sunday is the fully improvised (and English) comedy show Hole In The Boat. Gerry & Marty (also known from The Gerry & Marty Show) present a hilarious and musical show.

During the performance, the energy level of both actors and the audience are high, all wondering what will happen next. Nobody knows: it has not been made up yet!

This makes it all daring and unpredictable, and always versatile, hilarious and musical!

In a single show you might visit countless countries, hear even more different accents, get sung to or rapped about, get involved in love-triangles, go to the moon… whatever the audience can come up with.
