Getting to Amsterdam is a painless affair due to the closeness of Schipol Airport, which is just 20 minutes from the city and very well connected via rail and road.

Schiphol Airport Rail Service
Trains leave approximately every ten minutes between 5am and midnight (after which they depart hourly). The journey to Centraal Station takes about 20 minutes. Buy your ticket (€3.90 single) before you board, or you’re highly likely to incur a €35 fine. You are also charged an extra €0.50 if you buy your ticket from a counter; instead use the machines which also have English instructions.
A fixed fare from the airport to the south and west of the city costs around €40, and to the city centre about €50. Bear in mind that there are always plenty of licensed taxis beside the main exit. You can also book your taxi ahead on the Schiphol website (www.schiphol.nl).
