An immaculately restored 17th century building near Centraal Station, the Sofitel is well situated for shopping, sightseeing and eating. The rooms are tastefully furnished, with swathes of rich fabrics (though avoid the place if you’re allergic to Regency stripe). The gentleman’s club feel is continued in the Duke of Windsor bar-brasserie, designed to evoke the romance of the Orient Express.
