They’ve managed to squeeze two lifts in among the four old East India Company warehouses that now hold people rather than the fabulous spices of the Orient that marinaded Amsterdam’s wealth. Useful for the less fit among us, since the 80 rooms are arranged over six floors. It’s good for the canals and Nieuwezijds nightlife, with fine rooms, but, but... First rule of hotel management: never, never run out of food at breakfast time. Bears with sore heads are nothing next to cornflake-deprived clubbers.
