The fabulous art deco lobby in this former gold-merchants will whisk you to the ’30s, but the rooms, alas, are stuck in the ’80s – and the single ones are tiny. Mind you, you can’t knock the location. Nes is crammed with bars, restaurants and theatres, and is metres away from the Dam – ask for a room overlooking the square as there’s no extra charge. They don’t accept bookings for Saturday night only.
