A palace of a place, with 230 rooms spread over some 25 canal houses. Glorious for culture-seekers with abundant funds, there’s a good restaurant, a lovely garden and lots of art on the walls. Rooms, as you’re entitled to expect at these sort of prices, are wonderful, with marble bathrooms just one of the highlights. In August, the Pulitzer is host to many events in the Grachtenfestival of classical music. Lots of recitals take place in the courtyard garden, and it culminates with a spectacular closing concert on pontoons right outside the hotel.
