There’s been a hotel in this quiet street off the Amstel since the 1940s, but the building’s history stretches way back: built in 1727, it was the home of an East India Company captain. The 14 higgledy-piggledy rooms (and an apartment for five) are neat but plain. The same can’t be said for the breakfast room, which is plastered with vinyl platters, samples of which play on the Wurlitzer while you eat.
