On a rather genteel stretch of canal – the Finnish consulate is opposite – the Hof has seven simple but attractive rooms with low-beamed ceilings and dark wood furniture. They all have showers, but you have to share the toilets in the hall. There’s no breakfast, but with so much in the vicinity – Leidseplein is two-minutes away – it’s not a problem. There are no extras in this simple place, but who’s arguing at this price? A good bet for night-owls on a budget.
