Far removed from its early days as a hostel (and even further from its origin as an orphanage), this stylish hotel remains convinced that minimalism is cutting edge. Six new suites have recently been added, designed by the company IDing: most are duplex and all are fleshed out furniture-wise by big names like Piet Hein Eek. The only drawback is the location – a bit of a trek out east – but when there’s a top-notch nightclub, and its own groovy bar and restaurant on site, you don’t really need to go anywhere else. Horrific ‘nonexistent’ sound insulation between standard rooms.
(A conversation that started in the room next door at 5am may as well have been on our bed)
Faulty electrics resulted in a total loss of power in our room.
(No explanation, apology or notification when that it had been fixed)
Missing light bulbs in 3 of the 5 lamps in our room
(The ‘wrong size’ bulbs were finally just left on our bed for us to fit – or not to fit as the case may be)
Room size deception on website
(The room we had was basically the size of our bed)
Loss of clothes from our room?
(2 items of clothing went missing from our room on laundry day – the management did nothing at all to sort this quite serious situation out – the ‘takers’ of the clothes are still at large and the response to our letters of complaint to the management are still ‘Not our problem mate’)
Star rating is several thousand in the minus.
