Firmly in the ‘great hotel in bland location’ slot, only the glowing purple doors hint at the jewel of a joint hiding inside three ordinary-looking houses in residential Rivierenbuurt. The breakfast room/bar has a gorgeous pebbly fireplace, and the 24 rooms are similarly designer-orientated. Perhaps a bit pricey for the location, though the number 4 tram stops right outside to whisk you into town, and the Pijp’s a short walk away. If you’re in town for the RAI exhibition centre (ten minutes by foot) or the WTC, this is a splendid way of being where you need to be while avoiding impersonal, corporate chain-hotels.
