Perched above a boutique on Amsterdam’s glitziest shopping street, this basic-but-tidy hotel is a welcome break from all the consumption around you, and is a great base camp for those setting out on some serious museum exploration. Shockingly cheap for the city and the surroundings, if you don’t mind sharing facilities in the low season you could pay as little as €35 for a double, knocking hostel accommodation into a cocked hat.

Good price, good breakfast, but...
it is a l-o-n-g climb up the steps, especially to the top triple, even though that room is very spacious.
Also, very nice people run it
