In 1544 nuns, determined not to let their monkish brethren have all the fun, began producing beer at the cloisters on this site. But in this case it really was medicinal, the drinking water was that bad. And – praise the Lord – ‘The Converted Sister’ still produces beer: taps on the bar connect to huge copper vats of the stuff. They serve decent ‘pub grub’ too.
