It’s long, loungey and chilled, has an international vibe, a more-hash-for-your-cash menu and a small terrace overlooking busy and bustling Nieuwmarkt square. Hill Street Blues also makes some wicked fruit smoothies and shakes (ideal for munchies), and sells a discerning array of space cookies, space truffles and marijuana tea. Its other, more established, branch at Warmoesstraat 52, serves alcohol (with a daily happy beer and cider hour – well, hours – from 6-9pm), has a pool table and table football – but is invariably more hectic. It does ooze street cred, however: as proof of that, it’s a favourite of Irvine Welsh.
