Much beloved of visitors to Amsterdam for many years, this cheap 'n' cheerful staging post for pedal-pushers was one of the first (and is still one of the few) places to stay in the Pijp. With good bicycle access to popular out-of-town routes (along the Amstel, off to Utrecht), the friendly staff can suggest routes and rent out bikes - and if you bring your own, you can park it securely for free. The breakfast room is cute, rooms are comfy and there are loads of excellent places nearby to refuel for the energetic day ahead, or wind down after a long ride.

Don't give them your credit card #!! I gave mine via email to reserve a room. When I had to cancel my trip, I notified them via email MORE THAN A MONTH in advance. They were non-responsive, and proceeded to charge me for the first night's stay anyway. I have had no luck getting them to refund my money, and still no response after multiple attempts to contact. Make sure to get them to produce a written cancellation policy; I could not find one on their website.
