Monestir de Sant Pere de les Puel·les

In one of Barcelona's hidden squares, which itself is a charming and quiet place to stop for a rest and to recharge your batteries, stands a church that gives its name to the square. The Romanesque church, Sant Pere de Puel·les, dates back to 945 AD, when a nunnery of the same name was built outside the city walls and stood through attacks and fires.

While the religious community has since moved to a different site in the upper part of Barcelona (Anglí, 55) and the church was remodelled at the start of the 20th century following a fire, there are still some relics from the past, and one of the two original bell towers remains and rings out across the Ciutat Vella neighbourhood.
