Right now, nobody in Barcelona is hipper than local designer Mertxe Hernández. Her clothes have the distinction of being utterly different but immediately recognisable: colourful, multi-layered textiles, slashed and restructured to make a kind of soft and feminine body armour. Mertxe has also made the tourist T-shirt sexy: you can also find her sharp designs in the shops at La Pedrera, the Liceu opera house and the Museu Picasso.
