Let down by a smart but drab dining room and a preponderance of foreign businessmen, Windsor nevertheless serves some of the most creative food around. Start with an amuse-gueule of a tomato reduction with pistachio; warm up with wild mushroom cannelloni in truffle sauce or divine foie gras on thin slices of fruit cake; and peak with a dense, earthy dish of cod on black lentils followed by a foamed crema catalana. Then come down to earth with the bill.

Not so drab as a bit formal and stuffy on first impression, but staff v helpful (though their uniform jackets look as if they haven't had time to take their coats off) and food well up to scratch for the de-luxe level of pricing. Posted on Aug 29 2007 19:13
