Rafael Moneo’s sleek design is anodyne to the point of anonymity, all pale beech and sharp lines, and the Auditori is never likely to arouse the same affection as the Palau de la Música. Nevertheless, the 2,400-seat hall has provided the city with a world-class music venue and a home to its orchestra, the OBC. The Museu de la Música is expected to open here at the end of 2006, as is a new 600-seat auditorium, which will add more variety to an already impressive programme that covers not just classical music but jazz, contemporary and world music.
