About 1,500 Barcelona civilians were killed during the vicious air bombings of the Civil War, a fact that the government long silenced. As Poble Sec particularly suffered the effects of bombing, a large air-raid shelter was built partially into the mountain at the top of C/Nou de la Rambla; one of some 1,200 in the entire city. Now converted into a museum, it is worth a visit. The guided tour takes 90 minutes.
