Museu d’Història de la Ciutat

Plaça del Rei 1

The Casa Padellàs is a merchant’s palace dating from 1498, underneath which lie extensive Roman remains, including streets, villas and storage vats for oil and wine. The whole underground labyrinth, as far as the cathedral, can be visited as part of the City History Museum. The admission fee also gives you access to the Santa Àgata chapel and the Saló del Tinell, at least when there’s no temporary exhibition. This majestic room (1370) began life as the seat of the Catalan parliament and was converted in the 18th century into a heavy baroque church, which was dismantled in 1934. Tickets for the museum are also valid for the monastery at Pedralbes.
