Museu de Ciències Naturals de la Ciutadella
Passeig Picasso, Parc de la Ciutadella, Born
The Natural History Museum now comprises the zoology and geology museums in the Parc de la Ciutadella. Both suffer from old-school presentation: dusty glass cases that are filled with moth-eaten stuffed animals and serried rows of rocks. However the zoology museum is redeemed by its location in the Castell dels Tres Dragons, which was built under the aegis of Domènech i Montaner as the café-restaurant for the 1888 Exhibition. The geology part is for aficionados only, with a dry display of minerals, pain-stakingly classified, alongside explanations of geological phenomena found in Catalonia. More interesting is the selection from the museum’s collection of 300,000 fossils, many found locally. A combined ticket also grants entrance to the Jardí Botànic on Montjuïc.
