El Xampanyet

C/Montcada 22, Born

The eponymous poor man’s champagne is actually a fruity and drinkable sparkling white, served here in old-fashioned saucer glasses and best accompanied by the house tapa, a little plateful of delicious fresh anchovies from Cantábria. Run by the same family since the 1930s, El Xampanyet is lined with coloured tiles, barrels and antique curios, and with a handful of marble tables.

Not the 'only' but simply the 'best' reason to go back to Barcelona. THE most amazing cava, and tapas that keep on coming. An unusual appearance like a steamed up kitchen from the outside on a cold night, and very brightly lit, but once inside you will not want to leave! Friendly people who put a glass in your hand before you can even find a seat, and if you look twice at a particular tapas you have a plate infront of you before you know it! Forget the other bars...go here! Posted on Aug 07 2008 20:22

bowled up here on sunday around noon and hit the jackpot as it was quiet. the tapas and cava are incredible and if you're not that forthcoming the staff are super helpful with selecting you a 'sortida' of different things to try. can't wait to go back! Posted on May 26 2008 15:06
