Bestial

C/Ramón Trias Fargas 2-4

Its tiered wooden decking and ancient olive trees make Bestial a peerless spot for alfresco seaside dining. At weekends, coloured lights play over the tables as a DJ takes to the decks. The food is modern Italian: dainty mini- pizzas, rocket salads with parma ham and a lightly poached egg, tuna with black olive risotto and all the puddings you’d expect to find – panna cotta, tiramisu and limoncello sorbet.

    Too expensive for small food.
Only eat there if you can eat the terrace. Posted on Apr 20 2008 15:28

“Bestial”: one of the worst dinning experience ever… in some latin languages “Bestial” slung may mean “awesome”, while in formal language is an adjective from the word Besta “a person who has sex with animals”. Probably the intention with the name was to refer to the first, nevertheless the experience there should without a doubt resemble the second. With a superb location, just by the Mediterranean Sea with a view, a supposedly the “trendy” ambience turn out to be very annoying. The very loud music was more appropriate to a Rave Party than to a candlelit dinner. As soon as we arrived, we were sent to the outside bar, so as to wait for our table (reservation made in advance). At the bar, nobody care to attend us. The bartender, a very rude young fellow, did not have a clue what a Margarita should be, neither a Kirsh Royal, probably because of his experience, or lack of it: for the Margarita was unbearably salty with no ice, and the Kirsh Royal, served with a wine which should have had some sparkling the day before… Sent to the table, we had to wait more than expected to someone show up to help us. The food was equally awful: the tenderloin overcooked, not to say burnt in the exterior, while raw in the interior. On the other hand, the risotto while should be “aldente” was completely uncooked, even hard to chew. Bestial never again, and it would be nice to Barcelona City if that place was shut down! Not that it matters but for the record: those ancient olive trees the reviewer refers to are not real olive trees. They are some other type that has been manicured to resemble olive trees. Why would they do that? It probably saved them $5K per tree.... Posted on Aug 12 2007 18:40

unbeatable terrace and equally nice interior. Make a reservation for lunch. Incompetent host/hostess will not seat you even if 20 tables are open and set for reservations 2 hours from when you show up. They really have a lot to learn in BCN... Posted on Apr 14 2007 18:46
