The end of La Rambla is marked by the Columbus monument, designed for the 1888 Great Exhibition, and inspired by Nelson’s Column, complete with four majestic lions. A tiny lift takes you up inside the column to a circular viewing bay for a panoramic view of city and port. Claustrophobes and vertigo sufferers should stay away; the slight sway is particularly unnerving.
