After a €23-million refurbishment Le Méridien is now arguably the poshest place on La Rambla, and it's fair to say that if you need to ask the price you probably can't afford it. In keeping with this, it has maintained its conservative look, opting for classy hardwood floors, polished marble and leather furnishings, along with Egyptian cotton bedlinen, rain showers and plasma-screen TVs. But at this price you'd expect more facilities: a rooftop, perhaps, or at least a terrace. Still, rooms come with iPhones with an interactive guide to Barcelona, and all guests are given two tickets to the MACBA. Jean George Vongerichten helped design the menu at Cent Onze.
