Hotel Axel review Rate it
Housed in a Modernista building, with multi-coloured tiles in the lobby and bright rooms with bleached floors, the Axel is a cornerstone of the 'Gaixample', as the area around the hotel is known. The good-looking staff sport T-shirts with the logo 'heterofriendly', and certainly everyone is made welcome. King-size beds come as standard, as does free mineral water and erotic artwork. The 'Superior' rooms have hydro-massage bathtubs and stained-glass gallery balconies. The Sky Bar on the rooftop is where it all happens, with a little pool, jacuzzi, sun deck, sauna and steam room. Non-guests are welcome to frequent the bar and roof terrace, where club nights are held, so there's always a bit of a buzz going on. Recent work expanded the hotel to 105 rooms.
