This private collection of Dalí sculptures looks right at home amid the dramatic red velvet curtains and high, Gothic arches of the ground floor and basement of the Palau Pignatelli. In his later years Dalí signed his name to almost anything, but these 44 pieces were moulded by his own hands in wax by the pool at his house in Port Lligat and show he was just as accomplished at sculpting as painting. Broadly divided into themes such as eroticism, Don Quixote and mythology, they include such gems as a small bronze that is simultaneously a swan, a dragon and an elephant or an erotic vision of Quixote's Dulcinea. The collection is supplemented by over 600 drawings, sketches, lithographs and photographs. A free, related temporary exhibition space (in which items are for sale) has recently included shows by his niece, Lali Bas Dalí, and his muse, Amanda Lear. Upstairs is the home of the Royal Art Circle and visitors are welcome to view its exhibitions, for which entry is free.
