Friday, the second day of Primavera Sound, boasts a packed and incredibly varied line-up. Americans Drive-By Truckers will play their brand of alternative three-guitar rock/country. You’ll also be tapping your feet to the creative mixture of blues and rock brought to the stage by Dr. John, one of the most experienced pianists and a well-known composer from New Orleans, who will be accompanied by his Nite Trippers. Other performers inclue Lee Ranaldo, the co-founder of Sonic Youth, and John Grant, the former singer for The Czars.
It’s also the day to catch Pixies, a leader in the boom of alternative rock in the ’90s. Their legacy later influenced artists like The National, also performing on Friday, and Mick Harvey, who collaborated with Nick Cave to create the Bad Seeds.
Emerging rock trio Haim, made up of sisters from California, will be part of the impressive list of female musicians playing at the festival, which also includes fellow Californian singer Julia Holter, and songwriter Sharon Van Etten out of New Jersey.
For electronic music fans, there will be sessions by DJ Ángel Molina, DJ Fra and DJ Zero (founder of 7 Notas 7 Colores with Mucho Muchacho). Some of the must-see electronic performances are The Haxan Cloak and Vatican Shadow, the latter a project by the prolific Dominick Fernow in addition to his main projects, Prurient and Cold Cave.
