This extraordinary visual explosion of Modernista architectural flights of fancy is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Built in 1908 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, it's certainly one of the most spectacular music venues anywhere and much work has been done to improve its acoustics. A 21st-century extension has added a terrace, a restaurant and a subterranean hall. The Palau has seen some of the best international performers over the years, including the likes of Leonard Bernstein and Daniel Barenboim.
