Cast-iron pillars, etched mirrors and bucolic murals create an air of fading grandeur at Café de l'Opera, which now seems incongruous among the fast-food joints and tawdry souvenir shops on La Rambla. Coffee, hot chocolate, pastries and a handful of tapas are served by attentive bow-tied waiters to a largely tourist clientele, but given the atmosphere (and the opposition), there's no better place for a coffee on the city's most celebrated boulevard.
