Berlin's own cinematheque offers eclectic programming, ranging from classic Hollywood to contemporary Middle Eastern cinema and from Third World documentaries to silent films with live accompaniment. It also shows plenty of English-language films and some foreign films with English subtitles, while its two state-of-the-art screening rooms in the Sony Center make it a welcome corrective to the great Hollywood beasts of its multiplex neighbours.
