The monumental post-Stalinist architecture of Kino International belies a modest 500-seat auditorium, but the real reason to go is for the lobby with its crystal chandeliers and upholstered seating. A first-class example of 1960s DDR chic, it overtook the Colosseum as the premier cinema, which in turn made it the scene of Party functions and socialist shindigs. Still a top-class venue, it's also the home of the gay/lesbian Club International.
