A strong contender for best club in the city, if not Europe. In basic terms, it's a techno club in a former power station, but it has to be experienced to be fully understood. Even non-fans of the genre fall head over heels in love with the relaxed atmosphere, interesting mix of eccentrics, well-thought-out design details, fantastic sound system and sexually liberal attitude.
Tip for newbies: Berghain's anything-goes approach extends only as far as what they don't see you doing.
If you're searched at the door, an amnesty box gives you the opportunity to surrender anything illegal you may have before being cleared for entry. The club's reputation for a difficult and random door policy is not entirely undeserved. Panorama, with its smaller dancefloor and Wolfgang Tillmans artwork, is open all weekend; the more intense Berghain part of the venue, complete with darkrooms, is only open on Saturdays.
Area Friedrichshain
Transport S3, S5, S7, S75, S9 Ostbahnhof
Open midnight-late Fri, Sat
you should remove this club from your page: on saturday I went there with another spanish friend. The guard didn't allow us to go inside withouth reason. We asked why, and they asked where are we from, we said from spain and he said "thats your reason", then I took a photo of him and he broke my mobile phone. You shouldn't share racists places here.

pure euphoria
hedonistic
culturally intense and utterly sexy
was horrified the other day by mere thought there would be no berghain some day
Germans are genious to engineer something like berghain
Have been living in Berlin for 4 years and, as a gay man, went to the Berghain probably 20-25 times - always got in. Only once I didn't get in, which was last Saturday. No reason given, always dressed as ever, just left aside puzzled . Well, in this case I'll say there is no real door policy. They just choose randomly. The club is awesome but the door policy is just everything else.
I've been coming every month to Berlin from Paris for the Panorama Bar on Friday and Barghain on Saturday for more that over a year now. Never been turned down, never queue either and Its my best choice for club in the world. Few tips for the newcomers, guys better look gay than the boy next door. Dress more from the adidas store that Selfridges and ladies forget the hills or short skirts or overdone hairs that won't do any good.
From time to time, I am wearing sportswear, stylish sneakers or trendy Boss Orange look.. i do have a very conceal piercing and my hair is retro punk. I am Asian that helps too.
i`ve seen so many parisian being turn away but they look like they were coming straight from Neuilly.
For the attitude, there is nothing to do, if you are not getting the VIP (easy trick if you are gay) then be quite and wait for your turn.
On panoramaBar day there are often more people waiting outside than inside the club. But if you are getting in, then it's be best experience ever. Don't be shock by the back room, its berlin, ground floor for couple, first floor for gays.
And if you are coming on a Gummy night, don't be surprise to see guys on latex, they will be shirtless on the main floor anyway.
If you want some special tips i'll be happy to answer them. For other clubs in Berlin i often go to Kit Kat Club or Matzfabrick but its nothing like Berghain.
Visited over Easter in 2011 and went along specifically to see tensnake and tiga. The venue had two separate entrances as the Berghain was having one of their Snax parties, lets say for its for the guys only!
I was hopeful of getting in but was well aware that we could easily be rejected. We joined the line around a little after 3am and waited. Without wanting to see snooty you could see who wasnt getting in and to some extent, why. Advice to breach the door is the usual, small group, mixed sex (i wouldnt recommend any more than two, if you are more than two, split into two's) dress down but stylishly. Heels will certainly not get you in, ladies.
My girlfriend and I are in our mid 20's and got in with no fuss. Needless to say the Panoramabar lived up to expectations, i only wish i had the energy to stay longer.
It was a really nice crowd inside, polite yet up for it. I think it could depend greatly on how busy they are already, this night was not massively over attended therefore the door may have been a little easier. it was busy but comfortable, a far cry from many UK clubs where you are rammed in like sardines.
Already mapping out my next visit in my head....
Final tip would be to check the club listings and decide on a second location for your night should you be rejected.
We came to Berlin on a wknd break (28.08.2011)...headed for Berghain around four in the morning after sampling a few other clubs. Was so looking forward to it a the lineup was unbelievable. Massive queue ahead..but we were polite, friendly with everyone around us..could see a few getting turned away with no reason being given, got to the front of the queue and sure enough we were all told, 'youre not getting in' and 'no reasons needed', we turned to walk away and a man cameout of the club, kicked a shutter and three of the bouncers proceeded to punch him along the length of the queue, till he dropped directly into the fence. Mindless violence, shite door policy but behind us..you could sense one of the best clubs around. The main man Sven Marquardt was at the door totally surrounded by scary lookin bouncers (icy stares, blank expressions). Would love to know why no entry...been all around the world and never experienced this..total lack of rhyme of reason. Mind you, felt that if we had got in it probably would've been the best, just the size & atmosphere being generated form outside belied the internal madness bound to have been happenin..Molotov cocktails next time im back...C'Mon...!
sei extravagant, dann kommst eher rein. Schau hier, wie die Stimmung gerade jetzt ist.

We came to Berlin on a weekend break from London to experience the cultured and alternative side to Berlin. A friend of ours from the UK had reccommended the Panarama as must whilst there. Also my favourite house music artist of all time Larry 'Mr Fingers' Heard was on the line up. We spent 30 mins queueing in the cold at midnight after killing time around a few local bars earlier in the evening just so we could experience 'the best club in Europe'. Though we noticed several groups being turned away (including women) from the door we persisted in the queue. Ariving at the door the security told us that we weren't coming in tonight. I was particularly polite and eloquent in asking for a reason as to why, with a shake of the head and a cold stare as my reply. I then explained that we had come from London and this was our one chance to taste the Panarama, and that we are purely here for the music and vibe. Again I was met with a cold icy stare. Being in our mid-thirties and veteran clubbers from the house scene in London we really are at a loss to the door policy. I've been to Final Frontier, The End, Fabric, MOS and the Lost nights et al in London and never experienced or winessed a fickle take on who or not should get in - this ain't Manumission glam posturing after all. Some clarity on the door policy would help as opposed the mood of the so called door men on the night. I guess we will put this down to the their prerogative. If you did get in and had a great time then good for you! Frankly as someone who could school these guys in the history of house music and clubbing I'll be rubbishing the club to all and sundry upon my arrival home in london. (Any response form the club, Tyree etc will be most welcome).
'A strong contender for best club in the city, if not Europe'.
What an understatement!
How about 'easily the best club in the world, in fact nowhere else even compares'
