Since 1963, the Deutsche Kinemathek has been amassing a collection of films, memorabilia, documentation and antique film apparatus. In 2000, all this stuff found a home in this roomy, well-designed exhibition space on two floors of the Filmhaus in the Sony Center, chronicling the history of German cinema. Striking exhibits include the two-storey-high video wall of disasters from Fritz Lang's adventure films and a morgue-like space devoted to films from the Third Reich. But the main attraction is the Marlene Dietrich collection - personal effects, home movies and designer clothes. Exhibitions are often linked with film programming at the Arsenal cinema downstairs.
