Designed as the centrepiece for the 1936 Olympics, the Olympiastadion is one of the best surviving examples of Nazi monumentalism. After years of neglect, despite its status as a protected building, the 76,000-seater was given extensive renovations and a new roof before hosting the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final. This huge bowl hosts Berlin's top football club, Hertha BSC, the German football cup final and the ISTAF annual athletics meeting, as well as rock concerts and sundry other events.
