With roots dating back to 1912, the Deutsche Oper built its present 1,900-seat hall in 1961, just in time to carry the operatic torch for West Berlin during the Wall years. Since Reunification it has lost out in profile to the more elegant Staatsoper, but retains a reputation for productions of the classics. Discount tickets available half an hour before performances.
