Komische Oper review

Despite its name, the Komische Oper puts on a broader range than just comic works, and, after its founding in 1947, made its reputation by breaking with the old operatic tradition of 'costumed concerts' - singers standing around on stage - and putting an emphasis on 'opera as theatre', with real acting skill demanded of its young ensemble. Most of its productions are sung in German. Discounted tickets are sold immediately before performances.
