Perched on a windy stretch of Columbus Avenue, this greasy spoon (established in 1927) is pure bygone Americana. Chrome stools literally on their last legs line the counter, oilcloth covers the tables and yellowed photos of famous customers plaster the walls - while the impassive hash-slingers and crammed-in regulars radiate local colour. Speaking of hash, Charlie's turkey-based version is a staple, though the fluffy omelettes and even fluffier pancakes are as trusty as the turkey clubs, tuna melts and chilli dogs.
