Citi Performing Arts Center review

The Citi Center complex is the big daddy of all Boston theatres, encompassing the enormous 3,600-seat Wang Theatre and the smaller Shubert Theatre across the street. Originally known as the Metropolitan Theatre, the Wang opened in 1925. A huge restoration project in the late 1980s and early '90s restored the theatre's stunning gilt-trimmed interior to its former glory, and today it hosts everything from Broadway hits to Shakespeare, along with ballet, opera and the occasional pop concert.

The line-up is similarly diverse at the 1,600-seater Shubert. Opened in 1910, the Theatre District's 'Little Princess' was given a multi-million dollar facelift in the mid 1990s. These days, the bill is divided between theatre, music, dance and opera - it's the home of the Boston Lyric Opera.
