Wake up and dance at the Tropical Coffee Rave

Where else but Bristol would you find an early morning 'coffee rave' to get your day started with a bang? Well, yeah, probably in East London, where pre-work morning dance-offs are already a thing. But, this being Bristol, there is, of course, a twist. An ethical twist.

The Tropical Coffee Rave takes place at Extract Coffee Roasters on Friday May 8 and is part of citywide food event Bristol Food Connections - which aims to connect people to what they consume in a way that makes them think about and change the way they eat and drink.

With that in mind, this isn't just a rave - it's an opportunity to sample some quality, ethically sourced coffee and hot chocolate while shaking yourself awake to the sounds of the Caribbean in one of the calypso, cumbia or merengue dance workshops taking place from 7am to 10am that morning.

And while you may have sampled plenty of 'ethical' coffee before, the beverages at this event take conscientious consumption to a whole new level, with the beans all laboriously imported by the engineless sail ship Tres Hombres (pictured above) direct from the Dominican Republic by New Dawn Traders, before travelling by train and rickshaw to Extract in St Werburghs.

Tickets will be available from the Food Connections website from Friday March 27, and cost £8, including an espresso or sipping chocolate and a Hart's Bakery cinnamon bun.
