Caminito review

This street's name - literally 'little walkway' - comes from a 1926 tango by legendary composers Gabino Coria Peñaloza and Juan de Díos Filiberto, the lyrics of which are inscribed on a wall plaque. The corrugated zinc shacks stacked up on each side of the street owe their resplendent colours to the imaginative but impoverished locals who begged incoming ships for spare tins of paint. These days the street is thronged with tango dancers, small-time grifters and tourists, but Caminito's colour and chaos continue to charm.
