Built in 1896, this was once the headquarters of the La Prensa newspaper but now belongs to the city government. This building's French feel goes beyond the façades - the impressive Salón Dorado, inspired by the P alace of Versailles, hosts chamber music concerts each Friday at 7pm (entry is free).
A siren on top, sounded at crucial moments in the city's history, was last heard in 1983 when democracy was restored. (But curiously not in 1986 when Argentina won the World Cup) Guided tours also take in the city government headquarters on the Plaza de Mayo.
