From an aesthetic perspective alone, there's no restaurant in Argentina quite like El Bistro, from the bright white interior slashed with crimson to the mounted unicorn heads that gaze down from the walls. The menu is as singular as you'd expect from a young chef like Mariano Cid de la Paz, a protégé of El Bulli's Ferran Adrià. We're talking the likes of suckling pig confit and melon tacos with citrus and honey juice; perhaps followed by lychee gnocchi with lime , mint and rosehip ice cream. Thanks to the friendly, down-to-earth staff, dinner passes as an exotic but surprisingly unfussy adventure; and if you can follow it with a seat at the tango show in the cabaret next door, the evening ramps up into the ranks of the unforgettable.
