You'll find one of the country's oldest galleries housed in a stately Cape Dutch building. A non-profit organisation, the AVA first opened here in 1971 - its main aim to promote and advance South African art and artists (both emerging and established). Apart from organising exhibitions the AVA also runs an outreach fund, providing grants for studio space and materials for emerging artists. It's the ideal place to stock up on the work of talented young guns before they make it big. There's also a smaller, informal gallery space-cum-office area, which has work from previous exhibitors on sale.
