All Abt green
Many companies talk about going green, but Abt Electronics will take it to the next level. Next month, the Glenview store will open a recycling center on its lot, where customers can recycle old appliances and packing materials. Their goal is to have zero garbage, and it’s well on its way: The company already recycles five trailer loads of appliances daily and 1.5 million pounds of cardboard each year. 1200 N Milwaukee Ave, Glenview (847-967-8830).
Walk the walk
Savvy shoppers know that Bucktown is one of the best boutique destinations in the city, but those feeling clueless about which shops to hit up can go on the Bucktown Local Designer tour. For $50, the walking tour includes refreshements and exclusive discounts from the area’s top shops. The price is steep, but if you’re already shopping in this spendy ’hood you might as well go all out. Visit chicagoshopwalk.com for more information.
Tall order
“Big and tall” stores are common enough, but where do you go if you’re just plain tall? That used to be the problem for 6'6" North Sider Greg Funfsinn. He and partner Kara Griffiths recently launched AveryTallman.com, which sells designer clothes for lanky guys. The online shop features selections by 575 Denim, Earnest Sewn, Ted Baker and more. Thanks to the site, flood pants on towering fellas soon will be a thing of the past.
