    Public eye

    Gene Lee, “in my teens”

    Where are you going?
To Stanley’s to get a pickle. This is usually how it goes: the beach, then I go to Whole Foods to hang out with the rich white people, and then to the ghetto where I live—in a manhole by Garfield Park.

What are you listening to that’s making you dance like that?
Seoul, my band—Korean raps and funky Euro rock. Dance party USA!

    Are you wearing a Speedo?
Hot pants. And the towel hides a lot. It’s a distraction. You can’t look at the package all day, you know.

    Are you from around here?
I just came from San Francisco, but I’m originally from New York. I’m here to settle a score with some motherfuckers who did me wrong.

    Ooh, that’s so Kill Bill.
You could say I’m like Uma Thurman—I’m just one killer bitch. I’m pretty like Uma, too.

You look a bit shorter than she is—and you’re a guy.
She’s just thinner than me, that’s why she looks taller. After my Pilates training, we’re gonna dance…Lesbian 9000. I’m the coolest lesbian you’ll ever meet.

What do you do when you’re not chatting up rich white people?
I’m a musician. I’m inspired by 50 Cent and David Bowie; Brian Eno and Dr. Dre; gay people and black people.—Cecilia Wong
