    THE GOOD SEED Halloween is just around the corner, so chances are you’ve picked your pumpkins and are ready to carve. This also means you’re probably considering making pumpkin seeds, a fun idea that inevitably turns into a slimy, time-sucking event that yields overly chewy, flavorless seeds, right? This year, forgo the fuss and try Lot’s Wyfe Mesquite Smoked Pumpkin Seeds. Though gourmet salts are the company’s focus, owner Stefana Williams recently branched out after finding most store-bought seeds too salty. To achieve a delightful crunch and understated smoky-salty flavor, Williams smokes the seeds with mesquite wood chips, bathes them in a Hawaiian sea-salt brine, lets them dry and then throws them into an oven. Altogether it’s a five-hour process, one that you no longer have to endure yourself for a little seasonal snack. $3.50 for one bag; $10 for three bags at lotswyfe.com.
