“The Space 1026 Group Show” Space 1026 celebrates the opening of this exhibition of cutting-edge prints by more than 25 members of the Philadelphia artists’ collaborative with a live silk-screening demonstration. Country Club (1100 N Damen Ave). Thursday 17, 6–11pm. Free.
“Dark Matter Group Show” More than 30 artists—including Michael T. Rea and Marianne Jørgensen, whose work is pictured here—present work that tackles the theme of this year’s Version Fest. Version founder Ed Marszewski promises pirate radio, gay dating websites and hand-painted elote carts will be involved. This opening reception will feature sets by Pit Er Pat and other bands, performance art, karaoke and experimental film screenings. Co-Prosperity Sphere (CPS) (3219 S Morgan St). Bridgeport Space Walk Begin at 7pm with Vicki Fowler’s performance and installation at Motherland (1125 W 31st St). At 9pm, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Jaimie Branch and the other musicians of Musket perform at CPS. Other musical performances follow at Bernice’s (3238 S Halsted St), 10:30pm; and Kaplan’s Liquors (960 W 31st St), 11:30pm. Monday 21. Free.
Version Happening & Official Proximity Release Party Get a complimentary copy of Public Media Institute’s new art magazine, Proximity, and use it to smack anyone who gets too fresh as you dance to the music of Paul B. “Field of Dreams” The Plaines Project (an East Pilsen gallery and artist residency) invites you to help it turn a 20,000-square-foot vacant lot into a sculpture garden with this collaborative “art event and action.” For more information, e-mail plainesproject@gmail.com.
